Composition
LARIDERM 5 Gram OINTMENT – Mupirocin 2.0% W/W
Classification – Mupirocin (pseudomonic acid A) is a topical antibacterial agent which inhibits bacterial protein and RNA synthesis. It has excellent in vitro activity against staphylococci and most streptococci
Mode of Action – Mupirocin apparently exerts its antimicrobial activity by reversibly inhibiting isoleucyl-transfer RNA, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein and RNA synthesis.
Indication – impetigo, carbuncles, folliculitis, furunculosis, severeerythema, infected eczema and wounds , minor wounds, and secondary skin infections leading to traumatic skin lesions, due to Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
Dosage – Mupirocin 2% ointment administered 2 or 3 times daily
Drug interaction – Acenocumarol, benzocaine, benzyl alcohol
Side effects – Blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin.
Adverse effects – cracked, dry, scaly skin.pain, swelling, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or tongue or inside the mouth.
Contraindication – Burns, open wounds, or other damaged skin.
