Mode of action
Faropenem is a penembeta lactam antibiotic Faropenem demonstrates broad-spectrum in vitro antimicrobial activity against many Gram-positive and -negative aerobes and anaerobes, and is resistant to hydrolysis by nearly all beta-lactamases, including extended-spectrum beta-lactamases and AmpC beta-lactamases.
faropenem acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It inhibits cross-linkage between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains of the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria.
Indication
Acute bacterial sinusitis (ABS), Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis (AECB), Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections , complicated urinary tract infection
Dosage – B.I.D
Side effects – Headache, diarrhoea
Adverse Drug reaction – Nausea, vomiting
Contraindication – Allergy to beta-lactam antibiotic
Drug interaction – furosemide, sodiumvalporate
