Indication

Meropenem is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat severe bacterial infections, including:

• Lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia)
• Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Bone and joint infections
• Pelvic inflammatory disease
• Diabetic foot infections
• Intra-abdominal infections

Dosage

Adults:

• Typical dosage: 1 gram every 8 hours (three times a day) for most infections.
• Severe infections: The dosage may be increased to 2 grams every 8 hours or even every 6 hours.
• Renal impairment: The dosage may need to be adjusted based on kidney function.

Children:

Adverse Effects

• Common:
• Diarrhea
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Headache
• Injection site reactions (e.g., redness, swelling)
• Less common:

• Seizures (especially in patients with predisposing factors)

• Rare:
