Composition

Sitagliptin 100 mg Tablets

Pack: 10 tablets/strip

Dosage:

  • Recommended Dose: One tablet once daily, with or without food.
  • Special Populations:
    • Renal Impairment: Dosage adjustment may be required based on kidney function. Consult with a healthcare professional.
    • Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; monitor liver function if necessary.
    • Elderly: Dose adjustments may be required based on renal function and overall health.

Mode of Action:
Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which help regulate blood glucose levels by increasing insulin release and decreasing glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner. Sitagliptin does not usually cause hypoglycemia unless combined with other medications that do.

Indication:

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus, to improve glycemic control in adults as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.

How to Take Lasita 100:

  • Take one tablet daily, at the same time each day for best results.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
  • Lasita 50 can be taken with or without food.
  • Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Possible Side Effects:
As with any medication, Lasita 100 may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Symptoms may include a sore throat, runny nose, or cough.
  • Headache: A common side effect that may diminish over time.
  • Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar): More likely if taken with other antidiabetic medications that cause hypoglycemia.
  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, or stomach pain may occur.
  • Joint Pain: Some patients may experience joint pain, which should be reported to a doctor if severe.
  • Pancreatitis: Though rare, sitagliptin may increase the risk of pancreatitis. Symptoms include severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Precautions:

  • Renal Function: Regular monitoring is recommended, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
  • Pancreatitis Risk: Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatitis or gallstones.
  • Allergic Reactions: Though rare, severe allergic reactions such as angioedema may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
  • Heart Failure: Use with caution in patients with a history of heart failure.

Consult Your Doctor:

  • Before starting Lasita 100 if you have a history of kidney or liver issues.
  • If you experience any side effects, particularly symptoms of pancreatitis or allergic reactions.
  • For advice on diet, exercise, and lifestyle modifications to manage diabetes.

Sitagliptin 100 mg & Metformin Prolonged Release 500 mg Tablets

Pack: 10 tablets/strip

Dosage:

  • Recommended Dose: One tablet twice daily, typically taken with meals to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal side effects.
  • Special Populations:
    • Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments may be necessary based on kidney function. Consult with a healthcare professional.
    • Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; liver function should be monitored.
    • Elderly: Dose adjustments are generally not required, but monitoring of kidney function is advised.

Mode of Action:

  • Sitagliptin: A dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases incretin levels, which helps regulate blood glucose by enhancing insulin release and decreasing glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner.
  • Metformin Prolonged Release: A biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, leading to better glycemic control. The prolonged-release formulation allows for steady absorption and reduces the incidence of gastrointestinal side effects.

Indication:

  • Management of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly in patients who require a combination of sitagliptin and metformin for improved glycemic control.

How to Take Lasita M:

  • Take one tablet twice daily, with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet, as it is designed for prolonged release.
  • Maintain a consistent routine for taking the medication to ensure optimal blood glucose control.

Possible Side Effects:
As with any medication, Lasita M may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Common side effects include:

  • Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, stomach pain, or indigestion, particularly when first starting the medication.
  • Hypoglycemia (Low Blood Sugar): More likely if combined with other antidiabetic medications. Symptoms may include dizziness, sweating, confusion, and shaking.
  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Symptoms may include a sore throat, runny nose, or cough.
  • Headache: A common side effect that may decrease over time.
  • Joint Pain: Some patients may experience joint pain, which should be reported to a healthcare provider if severe.
  • Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Long-term use of metformin can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, potentially causing anemia or neuropathy.
  • Pancreatitis: Rare but serious, symptoms include severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.

Precautions:

  • Renal Function: Regular monitoring is required, especially in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
  • Liver Function: Use with caution and monitor liver enzymes periodically.
  • Pancreatitis Risk: Be aware of the symptoms and seek immediate medical attention if they occur.
  • Lactic Acidosis: Although rare, metformin can cause lactic acidosis, a serious condition that requires immediate medical attention. Symptoms include rapid breathing, muscle pain, and severe weakness.
  • Allergic Reactions: Rarely, severe allergic reactions may occur. Seek medical attention if symptoms such as rash, itching, or swelling occur.

Consult Your Doctor:

  • Before starting Lasita M if you have any underlying medical conditions, particularly those affecting the kidneys, liver, or pancreas.
