Telmisartan 40 mg + Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets

Dosage:

• Recommended Dose: One tablet once daily, taken at the same time each day.
• Special Populations:
• Renal Impairment: No initial dose adjustment is necessary, but renal function should be monitored regularly.
• Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution; dose adjustments may be required in patients with liver impairment.
• Elderly: Dose adjustments are typically not required, but careful monitoring is advised.

Mode of Action:

• Telmisartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, leading to the relaxation of blood vessels and a reduction in blood pressure.
• Amlodipine: A calcium channel blocker (CCB) that relaxes and widens blood vessels by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This helps to lower blood pressure and improve blood flow.

Indication:

• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in patients who require a combination of telmisartan and amlodipine.
• To reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with high blood pressure who are at risk of heart disease.

How to Take Laritel AM:

• Take one tablet daily, preferably at the same time each day, to maintain consistent blood levels.
• Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
• Do not stop taking this medication suddenly without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well.

Possible Side Effects:
As with any medication, Laritel AM may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:

• Dizziness or Lightheadedness: Particularly when standing up suddenly, due to the blood pressure-lowering effects.
• Swelling (Edema): Particularly in the ankles or feet, due to amlodipine.
• Headache: A common side effect that may decrease over time.
• Fatigue: Some patients may feel unusually tired or weak.
• Flushing: Amlodipine may cause redness or warmth in the face.
• Palpitations: Feeling of a fast or irregular heartbeat.
• Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, stomach pain, or indigestion.
• Muscle Cramps or Back Pain: Occasionally reported by patients.

Precautions:

• Kidney Function: Regular monitoring is advised, particularly in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
• Liver Function: Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; liver function should be monitored periodically.
• Heart Failure: Caution is advised in patients with severe heart failure.
• Electrolyte Imbalance: Monitor electrolytes periodically, particularly potassium levels.
• Hypotension: Be cautious if you experience symptoms of low blood pressure, such as dizziness or fainting, especially when standing up.
