Telmisartan 40 mg Tablets
Pack: 10 tablets/strip
Dosage:
- Recommended Dose: One tablet once daily, at the same time each day.
- Special Populations:

- Hepatic Impairment: Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; dose adjustment may be necessary.
- Elderly: Dose adjustment is typically not required, but close monitoring is advised.
Mode of Action:
Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It works by blocking the action of angiotensin II, a substance in the body that causes blood vessels to constrict, thereby lowering blood pressure. By relaxing blood vessels, telmisartan improves blood flow and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood.
Indication:
- Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults.
- To reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction in high-risk patients.
How to Take Laritel 40:
- Take one tablet daily, preferably at the same time each day.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food.
- Continue taking the medication even if you feel well, as hypertension often has no symptoms.
Possible Side Effects:
As with any medication, Laritel 40 may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. Common side effects include:
- Dizziness or Lightheadedness: Especially when first starting the medication or increasing the dose. This is often due to the blood pressure-lowering effect.
- Fatigue: Some patients may feel unusually tired.
- Upper Respiratory Tract Infections: Such as a sore throat or cold-like symptoms.
- Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, diarrhea, or stomach pain may occur.
- Back Pain or Muscle Pain: Some patients may experience these symptoms.
- Hyperkalemia (High Potassium Levels): This can cause symptoms like muscle weakness, fatigue, and irregular heartbeats. Regular blood tests may be required to monitor potassium levels.
- Angioedema: A rare but serious allergic reaction causing swelling of the face, lips, or throat. Seek medical attention immediately if this occurs.
Precautions:
- Kidney Function: Regular monitoring is advised, particularly in patients with pre-existing kidney conditions.
- Liver Function: Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; liver function should be monitored regularly.
- Electrolyte Imbalance: Monitor electrolytes periodically, especially potassium levels.
- Dehydration and Hypotension: Ensure adequate hydration, particularly during exercise, hot weather, or illness that causes vomiting or diarrhea.
Consult Your Doctor:

- If you experience any side effects, particularly signs of hyperkalemia or allergic reactions.
- For guidance on lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise that can help manage hypertension.
